Perry’s Brigade Advanced Position Tablet

Perry’s Brigade of R.H. Anderson’s Division of A.P. Hill’s Third Corps, Army of Northern Virginia is honored by a monument and an advanced position tablet.

Dedicated: 1906.

Location: Emmitsburg Road, north of Sickles Avenue.

Description: Cast iron tablet mounted on a fluted cast iron post denotes advanced position of the brigade during the battle. Inscription is painted in a contrasting color.

July 2. Formed line in forenoon in the western border of these woods. Advanced at 6 P. M. and assisted in driving back the Union lines on Emmitsburg Road and by rapid pursuit compelled the temporary abandonment of several guns. At the foot of the slope met Union infantry and the line on the right retiring also fell back. The color bearer of the 8th Florida fell and its flag was lost.
